County Description

Mariposa County is a county in the U.S. state of California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 18,251. The county seat is Mariposa. It is located in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, north of Fresno, east of Merced, and southeast of Stockton. The county’s eastern section is the central portion of Yosemite National Park.

There are no incorporated cities in Mariposa County; however, there are communities recognized as census-designated places for statistical purposes. It also has the distinction of having no permanent traffic lights anywhere in the county.

Mariposa County Code Section 8.56.050. A. Mariposa County Ordinance No. 1104

  • A maximum of twelve (12) plants either indoors or outdoors per parcel on parcels on which there is one (1) qualified patient or primary caregiver residing on the parcel.
  • A maximum of twenty-four (24) plants either indoors or outdoors per parcel on which there is two (2) or more qualified patients or primary caregivers residing on the parcel.
  • The primary caregiver(s) or qualified patient(s) cultivating marijuana must reside on the property where cultivation occurs on a permanent basis.

  • Mariposa County Ordinance 1086 ban is linked to Title 17 zoning  section 17.334.055 which prohibits medical marijuana dispensaries, collective or cooperative cultivation of marijuana, and cultivation of marijuana for medical purposes by persons not residing on the property on a permanent basis.
